What Tae Kwon Do Has Done For me

Since I began Tae Kwon Do in July 2004, I have learned many important things. Mostly, it has helped me to become more physically and mentally fit.

When I first began TKD, I could only do a few push-ups and sit-ups in a minute. Now I can do at least fifty push-ups and fifty sit-ups in one minute.

TKD has also increased my flexibility. Now I can do many stretches and a split.

I have even accomplished jumping over six target bags after learning how to properly tuck my leg during my jump. In the beginning, I did not know how to punch or kick with strength or attitude. Now I always give my best attitude in all I do and it has given me the strength and confidence to be more assertive in TKD and in school.

I also have improved the attitude in my voice and actions. Learning how to concentrate and focus with my eyes, ears, and body has been very important in graduating to each belt. Being healthy and staying fit will always help me to accomplish any goals that I set for myself.

TKD has helped me to improve by mental fitness as well. It has helped me to improve my memorization in TKD and at school by learning all the basics and forms needed to acquire each belt.

Other things that TKD has taught me are to be responsible for my actions and to have self-discipline by being on time and always being honest.

I have learned to be supportive of others and to never give up on myself. When I was trying for my lower belts, my instructors and friends always encouraged me to keep trying.

Respect is another lesson I have learned. I have learned to always respect and listen to my instructors, teachers, and my parents. Hard work and respect will be rewarded. TKD has also taught me that if I listen twice as much as I talk, I can learn a lot from others.

TKD has taught me many valuable lessons. I will always remember to use TKD for the right purposes. I have also learned that in order to help others I should always "Lead By Example" by doing what is correct and to always be prepared.
